Keeping Your Priorities Straight
By Sarah Jones
Sarah is a second semester freshman at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and is a member of Riverchase Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

It is hard to make the transition from High School to College (or any transition for that matter) and still keep your priorities straight. But, I think after the initial adjustment has worn off and with a little effort, I will be farther along in my faith journey.

To me, faith has always been a very personal thing; something that you find within yourself. What you believe, don't believe, and your personal views of the Lord are held inside of you. It was not until a short time ago that I realized how many outside factors can actually shape and/or alter your personal beliefs.

As a college student, I have seen many people first hand, trying to sway others' beliefs. I see people on campus shouting and inviting you to believe in the same thing. However, if you are not in agreement with their beliefs they will tell you that you are going to Hell. Not only are there people who try to change your faith, but there are also situations which college students face that can make them lean away from their faith. I think that everyone falls from time to time and the Lord helps us up.

Again, my idea of a faith journey is a personal thing. I think of it as a long, never- ending, blissful path, that often has some bumps. If I hit a bump and take a step backwards, I will then take two steps forward. I have always tried to learn from my mistakes and the people and situations that have affected my life. Learning from these things helps me to organize my priorities, placing the Lord at the top of my list, helping me along my faith journey.
