In a Thousand Voices
By Julian B. Culvern
Julian is an author, teacher, researcher in chemistry and in Earth and Space sciences. Julian is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, Tennessee.

Throughout the ages and in the present time as well, there have always been those who seem to have been able to hear the word of the Lord. Certainly the writers of the Scriptures have heard the word of the Lord. And there are many modern, everyday people who have heard the word of the Lord.

Without much doubt, sooner or later, and in one fashion or another, you too will hear the word of the Lord.

You may ask, How does He speak to us? Well, I cannot begin to tell you how God may someday speak to you; but I can indeed, tell you how He speaks to me. Sometimes His voice is soft and soothing and almost like a whisper-as a gentle breeze through the pines-and then sometimes His voice shouts out as giant thunderbolts crashing to Earth and splitting asunder the black clouds about us.

In a thousand voices, God speaks. Through the mouths of dedicated ministers He speaks. From the history of mankind, He speaks. In the lives of great contemporary men, He speaks. And from the exciting and beautiful world of nature and music, He speaks.

From the tops of the high mountains, God speaks. From the curving shores of the deep-blue lakes, He speaks. From the foamy crests of the dashing waves, He speaks. And from the rising and the setting of the radiant sun, He speaks. From the thundering earthquakes and the wide chasms, He speaks. And from the millions of corpuscles and the miles of capillaries, He speaks. Even from the heart of the nucleus and the evasive neutrinos, He speaks.

There is very little doubt that He speaks. The only doubt is whether or not we are listening. Certainly in a thousand voices, God speaks.
