ArchiveGoosebumps, Goosebumps, GoosebumpsBy Laura J. Kirkpatrick Every time I turn around, I get goosebumps as I hear people share their stories or see an exciting moment in the media or even sharing my own story. However, I don't find these goosebumps to be little coincidences to overlook. To me, they are "God incidents!" During a recent preaching class, I pulled Luke 1:39-45 out of a hat for my impromptu sermon. The text describes Mary's visit with her relative, Elizabeth, who is also expecting, as she shares the news that she is "with God's child." Upon hearing Mary's voice, the child in Elizabeth's womb (John the Baptist) leaps for joy. This is the perfect "goosebumps" moment, as the unborn child responds to hearing the voice of the mother of the Messiah. Feeling her own child move must have provided reassurance for Elizabeth as she listened to Mary's story. Advent is a month long goosebumps experience with several opportunities to recognize the birth of Christ. But as we continue into the new year, I pray today and every day that we will have our "goosebumps" moments as we experience the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit at work in our lives.
