Purple, Passion, and Purpose
By Mary Ellen Snell

Yellow FlowerWatching the transformation from winter to spring brings a renewed sense of energy and purpose. It is a time for awareness and growth as the world around me awakes. The birds begin to sing, the grass turns green, and colors emerge inspiring deeply pleasant emotions:

White is cool, composed, an accent to showcase a palette of other contrasting colors, and symbolizes the purity of God and heaven's angels. I feel inadequate, yet greatly desire to attain this virtue.

Yellow is bright and happy, energetic and joyful like our Christian spirit. This color is natural for me, and I feel at one with nature and God.

Purple is one of the loveliest colors in nature – vibrant, bold, and unique- reminiscent of our Lord's passion and sacrifice. A historical color of royalty, it reminds me that our Lord never intended to be an earthly King of power and wealth. His only desire was to serve his Father, and do his will. I am awed and challenged to be less worldly and more sacrificial- to strive to do his will and find his purpose for my life.

Each person has his own experience of Spring transformation. You may not have thought about your personal connection with nature like this. The experience is very spiritual, and is an opportunity to honor and worship God the Creator As you look at colors in nature this spring try to identify the feelings they evoke, and their relationship to your own spiritual awakening. May God bless you in your search for passion and purpose while you enjoy the season of renewed life around you.
