Inhale Autumn
By Deidre Witan

Flowering MeadowThe ground is warm and wonderful
It does not take but give its life
Drawing me close and in and beneath
Filling me with the bittersweet scent of freshly cut grass
      Its ashes gently rotting
The sun tingles my legs with its stinging heat
And I sink deeper into the welcoming earth
Which vibrates with a steady, yet dizzying hum
Dizzy as if I, too, were spinning
      And cycling with the earth
As we dance beneath the autumn sun.
