Fog
By Adam Dauro

Fog Shrouded MountaintopWalking through the fog tonight
Was
So thick I felt I could lie down on it
Sleep until
A man came out of the fog

      “Have you ever felt that”
“If you tried you could step up”
      “Onto the fog”
“Lift yourself up into the sky”

I could not say
Maybe if I could then
I could
Stop
Break away from this
Centripetal spin
Watch the world arc away
Fall back into

      “A darker fog than this”
      “Yes”
      “There is one you can”
      “Stand upon”

I would rather not see such a thing
But if this world did spin away from me
Could it take the pain with it
Could all of my flesh stay with it

      “Yes”
      “And one day it will”
“But until that day please do not”
      “Step up onto the fog”
“I need your strength to carry it”

He walked back into the fog
And it seemed to weigh heavy on his shoulders
